TOHO announced on 23rd May that it would acquire the animation studio Science SARU. The company will acquire all shares from its CEO, Choi Eun-Young, on June 19th, making it a subsidiary. This acquisition will strengthen the company’s animation production capabilities. [According to gamebiz.jp]
Science SARU is an anime studio founded in 2013, by producer Eunyoung Choi and director Masaaki Yuasa. The studio has produced numerous flims and animated series like Ride Your Wave, Inu-Oh, Devilman Crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, The Heike Story etc. The studio is currently working on an original movie named “The Colors Within” which is directed by Naoko Yamada (K-On!, A Silent Voice) and upcoming highly anticipated title “Dandadan” which is scheduled for Fall 2024. The studio’s work has received critical acclaim both within Japan and international.
After making Science SARU a subsidiary, the company says it plans to work together with Science SARU to improve the company’s production environment and provide more creative opportunities so that its employees and affiliated creators can demonstrate their talents more than ever before, and to produce higher quality works for both Japan and the world.
