
Chinese streaming platform iQIYI’s vice president of global markets, partnerships and investments Kelvin Yau (pictured) has left to join Hong Kong-based content distributor Medialink Group as chief strategy officer.
In this newly created role, Yau reports into Lovinia Chiu, chairman, executive director and CEO, Medialink. He will be responsible for the overall commercial success and strategic growth of Medialink.
This role was created to support the new five-year growth plan, opening new business opportunities in emerging markets and expanding in the licensed based events industry.
Working closely with Chiu, Yau oversees all business functions and income streams from content distribution, IP management, licensed based events and conventions, and the Ani-One, Ani-Mi, Ani-Mall, Ani-Two, Ani-Music-One franchise. Furthermore, he will lead in new upgrade initiatives and expansions of Medialinkβs existing and future office operations, key leadership developments, and young talent projects.
Apart from focusing on Asia, Yau will also put extra efforts in Southeast Asia, where he has spent last five years on the ground building strong client base and partnerships. He will also draw his decades of experience and business network from Greater China, where he facilitated many content and IP projects going global.
Yau first joined iQIYI as vice president of international business department and general manager of Thailand in 2020. During his tenure, he had helmed several senior roles such as VP, international business department, president of marketing APAC and he was most recently the vice president of global markets, partnerships and investments.
Prior to iQIYI, he was also the SVP and general manager of Greater China at BBC Studios and managing director of China and Taiwan at The Economist.
When asked why he left iQIYI, he told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that he is fascinated by the fast growth and new developments of anime and IP licensing in Asia, from the mass popularity of Japanese anime to the uprising of Chinese anime and other Asian based IP.
“Anime fanbase and communities are expanding quickly, Medialink is the best on- and offline platform and leader to serve and to innovate. With a large portfolio of licensed IP from across Asia, Europe and US, Medialink has ambitious plans to acquire and invest more IP, also extending into other genres and business lines,” he added.
