Anime distribution company GKids and streaming website Netflix announced that Uoto’s “100 Meters” has placed in the top 10 of the Global non-English language films on Thursday.

As of Thursday, January 8th. The anime film has placed 6th in the Netflix Global Top 10 for non-English language films since the anime film was released on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31st, 2025, garnering 15 million views. It also placed first among the top 10 films overall for the week in Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, and Taiwan.
The story centers on Togashi, a naturally gifted sprinter who finds purpose and social connection through his speed. His belief in speed as a measure of worth is tested through his interactions with Komiya.
He meets Komiya, a determined transfer student who, despite lacking natural talent, runs with fervor to overcome personal struggles. His passion influences Togashi and challenges conventional notions of success.
Together, these men explore the internal and external races of life: The ticking seconds on the track mirror emotional stakes, partnership, rivalry, and growth. Itβs not just about who crosses the line first, but how each characterβs journey impacts the other.
The anime film was released in September 2025, where the anime film praises how the running scenes feel immersive and visceral. It uses a rotoscoping approach and tracing animation over live-action footage, which results in realistic and kinetic motion, especially in sprinting sequences.
The manga series was published in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket from November 2018 to August 2019, and released in 5 book volumes.
