News: Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic PatrolΒ has been announced, and the anime is returning with a sequel after over 8 years. The announcement was made on January 25, 2026, at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event held at Makuhari Messe in Japan, celebrating the franchiseβsΒ 40th anniversary. The new series is officially set for production and was described as the βpinnacleβ of the anniversary project that began in 2024.
In addition to the anime news, a brand new game titled AGE1000 was announced.
Present on stage were Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actress of Son Goku, and Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer of the Dragon Ball series. The announcement took place during the opening stage event titled βExclusive Announcements! GENKIDASTAGE Part 1.β They explained that the new anime will continue the story after the Tournament of Power. Itβs described:
This will be the story following the βUniverse Survival Arcβ of the anime Dragon Ball Super, which aired between 2015 and 2018. It also appears in the manga Dragon Ball as the βGalactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.β The main character, Son Goku, and Vegeta, work together with the members of the Galactic Patrol, the peacekeepers of the galaxy, to begin a SUPER scale battle against a new enemy, βPlanet-Eaterβ Moro!
It was also confirmed that Akira Toriyama is credited with Original Work, Story, and Character Design for the anime.
A teaser visual was revealed, showing Goku and Vegeta standing side by side wearing Galactic Patrol uniforms and battle armor, with the Galactic Patrol symbol prominently displayed. You can see the teaser visual below.
Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. It was serialized in Shueishaβs Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1989. The Dragon Ball Z sequel started in 1989 and ended in 1995. The sequel to Z, Dragon Ball Super started serialization in 2015 and is still ongoing.
The franchise received numerous anime adaptations, with the latest ones being Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. With the latter one being separate from the main continuity, fans have been excited for the story to continue. The Dragon Ball Super TV anime ran from July 2015 to March 2018 for a total of 131 episodes. Crunchyroll streams the anime, for which they describe the story:

The latest movie Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO arrived to theaters in August 2022, and it had a strong opening weekend in North America. Dragon Ball also recently finished airing its Dragon Ball DAIMA anime, while it has other projects in development. One of them is the Dragon Ball Theme Park, which is planned to cover 500,000 square meters and be a key part of the Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.
Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024.
