Our involvement in this prestigious event kicked off on September 28, 2024, when one of our esteemed admins, Animax Kun, had the privilege of attending Mela Mela Japan 2024 in person. His journey through the event was nothing short of extraordinary, as he immersed himself in a whirlwind of unforgettable experiences, representing Anime Society India on the Grandest Stage of Anime Culture.

“The moment I stepped into the vibrant halls of Mela Mela Japan 2024, the energy was electrifying. My first stop was the Crunchyroll booth, where the announcer asked the gathered anime fans to raise their hands if they were followers of specific series. Fans of Solo Leveling, Dragon Ball, Kaiju No. 8, and Konosuba lit up the room with excitement as the announcements echoed through the venue. I could feel the palpable energy in the air as new content from Crunchyroll was showcased on massive screens, including sneak peeks of Dragon Ball Daima and Kaiju No. 8!”
“After soaking in the excitement at the Crunchyroll booth, I met some amazing cosplayers. Their creativity and attention to detail were awe-inspiring, and I couldn’t resist taking a few photos with them to capture the moment.
Then I headed to the Comix Wave Films booth, where I hoped to meet the creator of Suzume. Unfortunately, I missed the autograph session, which ended at 3 PM, but even then, I couldn’t believe my eyes β they had a chair from the Suzume movie that could rotate left and right on its own, just like in the film! It was surreal to see it in person.”
“My next stop was a treasure trove of anime merchandise, particularly anime t-shirts from some of the greatest series ever created. I saw shirts featuring icons like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and Berserk. It was a collectorβs dream, and I couldn’t resist grabbing a few items for myself.”
“One of the highlights of the day was at 3:30 PM, when I attended a screening of 5 Centimeters Per Second. And to my surprise, it was dubbed in Hindi! The dubbing was done exceptionally well, and I was captivated by the emotional storytelling in our own language. It was a unique experience that left a lasting impression.
At 4:36 PM, I had the fortune of meeting a Crunchyroll representative, where I introduced them to the incredible work that Anime Society India has been doing. We exchanged contact information, which opens exciting opportunities for future collaborations!
The surprises didnβt end there. The director of 5 Centimeters Per Second made a special appearance! Unfortunately, I was exhausted from the dayβs events and didnβt get a chance to speak with him directly, but just seeing him in person was an honor. To top it all off, the final episode of Attack on Titan was screened at the event, alongside Your Nameβboth of which were absolute crowd-pleasers.”
“The event concluded with one last exhilarating moment: I met the individual who had personally invited Anime Society India to Mela Mela Japan! It was an honor to learn that heβs a student at an Indian university, a reminder of how the world of anime is truly becoming a global phenomenon. The excitement continued when one of the founders of a renowned anime studio took the stage to discuss their upcoming projects and even unveiled a PokΓ©mon promotion on Netflix. There was a moment of intrigue when someone from the audience asked if Japanese anime studios would ever open branches in India to support and nurture new talent. The prospect of such a collaboration sent waves of excitement through the crowd.β
