Hot on the heels of a brief peek during today’s Nintendo Direct presentationOpens in a new tab, Koei Tecmo America followed up with a closer look at The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother. The series’ first console game is coming to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (Steam) in early 2027, featuring a brand-new story by original author Natsu Hyuuga.
Trailer:
Featuring Japanese voices with English text, The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother finds Maomao investigating the Five Mysteries and the Five Curses. During her investigation she runs into a masked man who calls himself the “imperial younger brother,” and the investigation that follows leads to the uncovering of “a shocking secret that could destroy the imperial court.”
The game consists of exploratory investigation sequences, which have players finding clues and interviewing witnesses, as well as scenes where Maomao must venture outside the city to gather medicinal ingredients. Once enough information and evidence has been gathered, it’s on to the deduction phase, in which Maomao reviews clues, presents her theory and provides proof against the word of argumentative parties.
The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother will be on display during a special livestream from Koei Tecmo’s stage event at Tokyo Game Show 2026 on September 20. Anime voice actors Aoi Yuki (Maomao), Takeo Otsuka (Jinshi) and Yohei Azakami (Guanyu) will be in attendance.
